I Got a Lump of Coal From the Broncos This Year

This guy put the title from my last post on his sign:

A Christmas Wish (Denver Post)

On Christmas morning I guess there were a lot of disappointed Broncos fans that had to explain their team’s miserable loss to friends and family.  Truth is, it’s hard to justify this season. After going 9-7 and nearly making the playoffs last year, the Broncos expected more from themselves. John Lynch said,

“We had very high hopes coming into this year. It’s been an extremely frustrating year. And to get whooped a couple of times by a division opponent is no fun and you’re out there trying to do everything you can to win…”

Getting whooped is an understatement. The Broncos were outscored by the Chargers this year 64-6. No wonder Lynch tossed LaDanian Tomlinson’s helmet down the field after a tackle (Denver Post).

Here’s to some major changes in the Broncos organization in 2008!

Sadly I have to agree with the Denver Post today, Mike Shanahan has gotten stale.  I think the offense hasn’t really been good or unpredictable in years (and honestly, ask yourself how hard it would be to have good offense with John Elway and Terrell Davis, Rod Smith, Ed McCaffrey and Shannon Sharpe???), he is solely or at least primarily responsible for the lack of talent assembled on that defensive live, and every year we hear excuses about injuries and performance and being outcoached on a given day, and for a "mastermind" that’s just not acceptable.  I don’t think he needs to be fired, but he needs some help, either at the coordinator position or he should be given a co-general manager with equal power or even more power in player moves.
