The Blues Continue in Denver

With baseball season ending right here in Denver on Sunday night, Colorado sports fans have had a rough week. We had hoped for a little pick-me-up with a Broncos win last night, but things just aren’t going our way.

It looks like I had too much confidence in my beloved Donkey’s during my interview with USAToday.com. I really thought that with the win over Pittsburgh in week 7, we could handle Green Bay at home in week 8. With an 82 yard bomb thrown by Brett Favre on the first play in overtime, our end of the game star, Jason Elam, didn’t even have a chance to chalk up another mark in the Broncos’ win column. Packers wideout, Greg Jennings, knows how to break down the winning play.

Hats off to the Packers for finally winning their first game in Denver in franchise history. Favre also threw his very first TD pass in Denver last night. All Favre has to do now is throw a TD pass in Pittsburgh and Baltimore, the only other cities where he hasn’t thrown one.

Even though Broncos QB, Jay Cutler, is only in his 2nd season, he knows Favre all too well. “First play, they win it. That’s Brett Favre. He’s a quarterback that knows how to win and has been doing it for many years. It’s still tough.”

Cutler may have had more confidence in Favre than Favre had in himself. ” I was nervous as heck,” he said. “I haven’t been in too many overtime games. We got the ball and I figured we probably had one chance. If we don’t go down and do something, this is probably it. Don’t screw it up, whatever you do.”

The Broncos defense really stepped it up in the red zone. The Packers were inside of the Broncos 5 yard line twice, and the Broncos held them to a couple of field goals. The only problem is that the Broncos’ offense struggled to score when they were inside the red zone. Perhaps, Travis Henry (Ribs) would have plowed through the Packers’ defense and into the endzone. For more information on the Broncos’ red zone troubles, see what Charlie O’Brien has to say.

So what does this season mean for Denver? Mike Sando from ESPN.com thinks that this season should be used to let Jay Cutler develop. What do you think?
